Monkey

On today's science lesson about living and non living thing...

Mummy : "Animals are different from human. Most of the animals are wild. They will jump around,
                  climb around."
Steward : "Yes."
Mummy : (trying to tease Steward) "But I have a little boy here who likes to jump and climb around.
Is this a human boy or a monkey?"
Steward : "I'm not a monkey!"
Mummy : "Oh no? But why do you like to jump and climb around like a wild animal?"
Steward : "I'm not a monkey!"
Mummy : "No?"
Steward : "No. I am just naughty sometimes."

Jesus Will Heal You

We were playing pretend play. He was a doctor, holding a toy stethoscope and a toy injection. He was injecting me.

Me          : Ouch! Doctor, you hurt me!
Steward  : It's ok.
Me          : No, it's not ok. A doctor should heal me, not hurt me.
Steward  : It's ok I hurted you. Jesus will heal you.

Go Diego Go

We were watching Go Diego Go, one of Steward's favorite cartoon. On one of the scenes, Diego was climbing a tree,"Come on Amigos, put your hands up and climb, climb, climb."
Me         : Put your hands up, Steward. Climb climb climb.
Steward : I don't want, Mummy. I'll look silly.
Me         : *lost for words*

Beetroot

Steward : I like to eat beetroot
Me         : (quite surprised) Why?
Steward : Because a lot of mosquitoes like to bite and suck my blood. So I need to replace my blood
                with beetroot.

He is Healed by Jesus

While I was preparing medicine for Steward, he hid behind a wall and started to pretend play with me. (For the record, he doesn't like the taste of the medicine)

Steward : (with a deep and big voice) What are you doing Novelia, my mummy?
Mummy : I am preparing medicine for my son.
Steward : You don't need to give your son medicine anymore. He is healed already.
Mummy : Are you sure?
Steward : Of course I am sure. I am Jesus. I know everything and I already healed your son. So there is no need to give him anymore medicine.

She Didn't Understand

We were at home discussing about our last trip to Penang, the friends that we met, the places that we visited, etc. We had this discussion while having dinner.

Steward : Mummy, why did Uncle James scolded Eleora for not opening her mouth while eating?
Eleora, open your mouth big. Big. Not small.
Me         : No. Uncle James were just joking with Eleora. He didn't really scold her.
Steward : Why?
Me         : Because Eleora is a baby. She didn't understand almost everything that we said.
Steward : She didn't understand? *thinking*
Me         : Nope. She didn't.
Steward : If she didn't understand, then why she likes to scold me and Gabriel when we teased her?
Me         : *lost for words*

Daddy    : "Steward, do you know tomorrow is Fathers Day? So you have to say Happy Fathers Day
                    to Daddy tomorrow."
Steward   : "Tomorrow, Daddy? Happy Fathers Day?"
Daddy     : "Yes."
Steward   : (thinking) "Last month was Happy Mothers Day. Tomorrow will be Happy Fathers Day.
When is Happy Little Kids Day?"

Thunder

It was raining cats and dogs. Once there was a very loud thunder sound. Steward was really shocked and jumped directly to hug me, while saying quickly : "Don't worry, Mummy, I will protect you. Don't be afraid."

Though his voice was trembling, he was trying to look brave :) How the boy is growing so much. Thank you Jesus.

On The Cross

A couple of weeks ago when we are approaching Easter, I taught Steward a lot about Jesus' sacrifice on the cross. How His sacrifice on the cross has saved us the sinners. And as always, he came up with questions.

Steward : "Mummy, do you think that we can be on the cross, instead of Jesus?"
Me         : "Why do you ask this question?"
Steward : "Poor Jesus. Can we be on the cross instead of Him?"
Me         : "Jesus has to be on the cross to save us. We are sinners."
Steward : "I want to save Jesus. Can I?"
Me         : "No, you cannot. Jesus can save us because He is our God."
Steward : "Yeah, but I can try to be God also and save Jesus. He did not need to be on the cross."
Me         : "If you tried to be God, then you can end up like Adam and Eve who tried to do so also."
Steward : (silent for a while, thinking) "Hmmm...I don't want to be like Adam and Eve. Ok, then
                 Jesus can save me then."

I know that this is not the most biblical or evangelical or even true explanation. But I frequently find myself in a difficult position explaining Steward's questions about bible truth. I have to admit that it is quite difficult to simplify the explanation to a little child. But God's grace is always abundant upon us and our children. As long as we tried to humbly explaining and evangelizing to our children, I believe that God's grace will be abundant upon their lives. It's my prayer. Hear me o Lord. :)

Patient Pony

We are teaching Steward about good characters by pairing the words with animals' names. Each of the first letter of the character has to be the same with the first letter of the animal. For examples : Patient Pony, Obedient Otter, Polite Panda, Diligent Donkey, Brave Bear, and so on.

We are in the "Polite Panda" phase and we have 'passed' the Patient Pony and Obedient Otter. One day, he was having his lunch and it seemed like it took him forever to finish the meal.
Me         : "Steward, please finish the food fast! We need to go."
Steward : (looking at me with an eyebrow up) "Patient Pony, Mummy. Remember....you have to be
                 patient!"
Me         : (phew!)

I wanted to scold him but in the same time also wanted to laugh. But somehow this is something that we have to be thankful because it means that whatever that we have taught him about the characters stay in his mind :)

Prayer

I caught Steward lying. After sending him to the corner for a while, I talked to him and asked him to pray, asking for forgiveness from Jesus. While sobbing, here goes his prayer...

Steward : "Jesus (sobbed even harder)...forgive....forgive Mummy, Jesus. Because she has made me sad. Amin."

House of Bricks

We were walking back home from the swimming pool in our housing estate, and we passed a house which is being built.
Steward : "Mummy, why are they building houses from bricks?"
Mummy : "Bricks and stones are one of the most important things to build a building."
Steward : "No..."
Mummy : "What do you mean?" (trying to guess where is the conversation going)
Steward : "I know! So the wolf cannot blow the house down!"

Jesus is the Light

It was a normal day in Medan when all power is off :). Yes, we call it a normal day. We were going up to our bedroom in the third floor while carrying a flashlight. Steward wanted to hold the flashlight and lead the way. Halfway up, he said : "Jesus is the light. I am the flashlight. Follow me, Mummy and Daddy!"
