A couple of weeks ago when we are approaching Easter, I taught Steward a lot about Jesus' sacrifice on the cross. How His sacrifice on the cross has saved us the sinners. And as always, he came up with questions.
Steward : "Mummy, do you think that we can be on the cross, instead of Jesus?"
Me : "Why do you ask this question?"
Steward : "Poor Jesus. Can we be on the cross instead of Him?"
Me : "Jesus has to be on the cross to save us. We are sinners."
Steward : "I want to save Jesus. Can I?"
Me : "No, you cannot. Jesus can save us because He is our God."
Steward : "Yeah, but I can try to be God also and save Jesus. He did not need to be on the cross."
Me : "If you tried to be God, then you can end up like Adam and Eve who tried to do so also."
Steward : (silent for a while, thinking) "Hmmm...I don't want to be like Adam and Eve. Ok, then
Jesus can save me then."
I know that this is not the most biblical or evangelical or even true explanation. But I frequently find myself in a difficult position explaining Steward's questions about bible truth. I have to admit that it is quite difficult to simplify the explanation to a little child. But God's grace is always abundant upon us and our children. As long as we tried to humbly explaining and evangelizing to our children, I believe that God's grace will be abundant upon their lives. It's my prayer. Hear me o Lord. :)
